Magic Millions call looms after debut win for By Choice

Adrian Bott admits a Gold Coast trip is likely if ownership support pushes By Choice towards the Magic Millions path.

Following her debut win at Randwick, Bott would prefer a more traditional two-year-old target over the $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on January 17.

However, connections are eager to chase the rich race, and Bott concedes the argument has merit.

Purchased for $220,000 at the 2025 Gold Coast Yearling Sale, By Choice was strong late to win the Spelling at Coolmore Mt White Handicap (1100m).

She overran early leader Masvingo, with favourite Tigroni close up in third.

“She’s a professional and that will take her a long way,” Bott said.

“She put herself into the race and came back under Regan (Bayliss). She showed plenty late.

“The owners are keen to get a runner on the Gold Coast and I may be one-out if I said to try and hang out for the Widden Stakes or something like that later.”

Bayliss was impressed after overcoming a wide draw.

“Barrier ten is never easy especially when the rail is out so far,” he said.

“I knew she had the professionalism to overcome that and that is exactly what she did.

“She showed good speed from the barriers and switched off a treat. She’s a nice filly.”

If she heads north, By Choice could first line up in the Gold Pearl 2YO Fillies (1100m) on January 10.
