Zip Lock keeps a low profile ahead of Magic Millions showdown

While two of the leading chances in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic stepped out publicly at the Gold Coast on Saturday, others chose a quieter build-up.

One of those was Zip Lock, who completed a low-key but purposeful gallop earlier in the day.

The Hellbent colt earned his place among the contenders with a win in the Group 3 B.J. McLachlan Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on December 27.

He now shares second favouritism at $7 with Shiki for the $3 million feature.

Co-trainer Corey Munce said the weekend exercise was all about education rather than speed.

“We brought him to the Gold Coast for a gallop on Saturday morning,” Munce said.

“No land speed records were broken but the whole objective was for him to have a look at the track and imitate a race meeting so he passed with flying colours, pulled up very well and we’re very happy with him.

“He’s going to run a bold race.”

Zip Lock was trucked down from Brisbane and returned home the same morning, a move Munce said helped settle lingering frustration following the injury setback to Cool Archie.

“It is bittersweet but this horse, we feel, is doing a little bit more than what Cool Archie did at the same point in time and all I know that this horse will run a heck of a race next week.”

Stablemate Warwoven remains the $2 favourite after winning at Eagle Farm on January 3.
