The Lindsay Park trio of Ben, Will and J D Hayes are keen to see Nervous Witness return to winning form before chasing bigger autumn targets.
The gelding was previously trained in Hong Kong by David Hayes before being repatriated to Australia late last year.
After four jump-outs, Nervous Witness is ready to resume and is expected to head to Sydney for a benchmark 94 over 1000 metres at Randwick on Saturday.
That run will help determine whether Group 1 sprints in Victoria come into play, including the Lightning Stakes (1000m), Oakleigh Plate (1100m) and Newmarket Handicap (1200m).
Nervous Witness impressed with a dominant trial win on Thursday, but Ben Hayes urged caution.
“As we saw in his trial, he’s got a high cruising speed and he’s always been a horse that trials very well, so don’t let that trick you,” Hayes said.
“But for me, it was exciting to see because it looks like he’s got that enthusiasm back.”
Hayes said the gelding had benefited from a break not possible in Hong Kong and was now ready to race.
“If he was to run well, we could back him up in the Lightning Stakes or in the Oakleigh Plate,” he said.
Lindsay Park previously enjoyed success with Redkirk Warrior, who won the Newmarket Handicap after returning from Hong Kong.
“It would be nice to do something similar,” Hayes said.
