Light weight prevents Rawiller riding Weeping Woman in Triscay Stakes

Renowned for bold riding strategies and his renowned strength in tight finishes, Nash Rawiller stands out as a top jockey.

Trainer Joe Pride believes sharp evaluation of racehorses should join those qualities.

The duo has built a strong alliance lately, especially highlighted by the achievements of top sprinter Eduardo, and Pride pays close attention when Rawiller offers his thoughts.

Rawiller has played a key role in shaping promising sprint mare Weeping Woman, though he can’t partner her in the Triscay Stakes (1200m) this Saturday because of her low impost, but his feedback from her recent barrier trial lingers with Pride.

“Nash got off her the other day after her trial and he said, ‘I wouldn’t be surprised if she graduates to being a Group One horse at some point, this mare’,” Pride relayed.

“I was a bit taken aback because I didn’t have her as that, but I have found over the years he is a bloody good judge, Nash.”

Weeping Woman last raced when claiming the Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) back in December, carrying good condition from that preparation.

Likewise, stable companion and consistent veteran Coal Crusher resumes in the Expressway Stakes (1200m).

Having finished second to King Of Sparta in the same event two years prior, Coal Crusher now meets fillies and mares like Group 1 victors Joliestar and Lady Shenandoah on Saturday, with Pride noting the quality in this compact top-class lineup.

“This is a ripper of a version,” Pride said.

“He’s going to be a big price because everybody doesn’t think he’s got the class of the others, but I have kept him up to the mark.

He had a good hit-out in a trial the other day and went really well. I think he’ll run a cheeky race, and he’ll get out and scoot.”

With Chad Schofield aboard, Coal Crusher ranks as the second-longest odds among the six runners at $15, while Weeping Woman, partnered by Tim Clark, leads as the $4.40 market elect for her engagement.
