Twilight Elegance heads to Adelaide for black type chance

Two jockeys ride closely in a nighttime horse race, leaning forward as these sprinting horses stride on the turf with a Ladbrokes banner visible on the saddleship.

The Ciaron Maher stable is taking Twilight Elegance to Adelaide in pursuit of valuable Black Type status.

The Listed Port Adelaide Cup (2518m) at Morphettville this Saturday offers the mare an opportunity to secure Black Type and boost her prospects as a future broodmare.

Twilight Elegance was originally slated for a start at Flemington last Saturday, but the stable reviewed the extended weather outlook indicating incoming rain and chose to redirect to Adelaide.

Saturday’s forecast in Adelaide shows 25c with 3-10mm of rain expected.

The mare triumphed over 2500m on a Soft 5 at Pakenham last month prior to finishing fifth to The Western Front in the 2400m event at Caulfield on April 4.

The Western Front went on to claim victory in the race from which Twilight Elegance was scratched last Saturday.

Jack Turnbull, National Assistant Trainer for Ciaron Maher Racing, noted that the upcoming race aligns perfectly and provides a solid chance for Twilight Elegance to earn key Black Type.

“She ran well at Caulfield last start after winning over the trip at Pakenham,” Turnbull said.

“For an opportunity to run in a Listed race and attempt to get some all-important Black Type on her page, it makes sense.

“We know she wants ground and if we do get some rain, then that will only enhance her chances.”

The Port Adelaide Cup features a field of 11 with Twilight Elegance in barrier seven under Jamie Melham.

Sir Kingsford aims to defend his title in the race after winning last year with Teagan Voorham.
