The Carnival has departed and trainer Nichole Searle hopes it leads to a well-earned win for Tosen Water as action resumes at the Parks circuit in Morphettville this Saturday.
This six-year-old mare aims to improve on her recent two efforts in the $65,000 Sportsbet Fast Form BM74 Handicap.
The Tosen Stardom filly was entered for Flemington but Searle, along with partners Gary and daughter Brianna Callanan, opted to keep her nearer their Gawler stables, viewing the 1300-metre event as ideal in her campaign.
Tosen Water’s recent second to Dobbinair in the $105,000 State Sprint Series Final on May 2 came after a run Searle deemed unfortunate, finishing three-quarters-of-a-length behind Clarance on April 18.
“She’s a super-consistent mare, she probably should have gone close two starts back had the horse inside her not rolled off the rail,” Searle said.
“So, she’s doing really well. Her work was really nice on Tuesday morning and she’s come through both those runs really well.
“It looks a nice race for her.”
The mare, with six victories from 34 outings, had Teagan Voorham aboard in her latest two races, but Rochelle Milnes, last season’s leading jockey, takes the ride this time while Voorham rides stablemate Sir Kingsford in the Listed Andrew Ramsden at Flemington.
Milnes and Tosen Water have barrier eight from 14 starters, and Searle welcomes any forecasted rain in Adelaide prior to the race.
“We’re going to get a lot of rain over the weekend apparently here, which will benefit her because she likes a wet track too,” she said.
“Barrier eight is probably a nice gate for her and Rochelle’s on her. Rochelle knows her well, she’s won on her and been placed, so fingers crossed she can keep her consistent form up.”
Tosen Water sits at $7 in early markets for the Saturday feature, led by recent Morphettville victor Bouncing Beyond.
