A group of seven horses aiming for spring success will participate in a trial at Caulfield Heath before racing commences at the Caulfield track.

The Melbourne Racing Club (MRC) has stepped in to assist trainers seeking a turf trial opportunity for some of Victoria’s promising spring contenders.

Caulfield Heath is scheduled to hold an arranged trial on Saturday, taking place 45 minutes prior to the first race at Caulfield.

Seven horses – Aethera, De Bergerac, Giga Kick, Mr Brightside, Tom Kitten, Treasurethe Moment, and Yellow Jersey – are set to compete over a 1000-metre distance.

This trial has been organised through a collaboration between the MRC, Racing Victoria, the Australian Trainers’ Association, and the Victorian Jockeys’ Association.

The trial holds significance for Mr Brightside, Tom Kitten, and Treasurethe Moment, who are being prepared for their first-up runs in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 29.

Recent wet weather across Victoria has impacted horses preparing for the upcoming Melbourne Spring Carnival. Notably, those based at Mornington experienced the cancellation of jump-outs on Wednesday, while turf jump-outs at Cranbourne last Monday were also abandoned and relocated to the synthetic track.

The MRC is also planning to conduct jump-outs at Caulfield Heath next Wednesday, typically reserved for horses trained at Mornington.

However, the MRC and RV have agreed to accommodate up to 40 horses not trained at Mornington for gallops on the outer section of the Caulfield Heath track.

Nominations for these jump-outs are due on Monday, and early indications suggest that the fields will feature a considerable number of horses with spring carnival aspirations.
