Happy Clapper has made a powerful inside run to victory in the $3 million Group One Doncaster Mile at Randwick.

In a great ride by Blake Shinn, the gelding hugged the rail as he pulled away from the field to win ahead of Comin’ Through and Arbeitsam.

“Great horse. He loves the mile, he just eats it up,” trainer Pat Webster said on Saturday.

“Barriers win races” were the comments of a few beaten jockeys who returned to scale with hard luck stories.
