Twenty-five outstanding Windsor Park Stud yearlings will be lining-up from Day 1, Saturday 30 January, of the 91st New Zealand National Yearling Sale Series, and be heading for racetrack glory.

The Galileo sired Rip Van Winkle has four top-quality Premier Sale yearlings catalogue led by Lot 222 a half-sister to stakes winner Comme Tu Veux, stakes placed winner Navajo Run and the immediate family of Group 3 winners Here de Angels and Miss Stellabelle.
The twice Champion New Zealand sire Savabeel has four Premier yearlings featuring Lot 91 a filly first foal of Group 2 placed winner Chaparrone from the family of Fiveandahalfstar and Cross Swords
High Chaparral has four yearlings highlighted by Lot 44 a filly first foal of the stakes placed Appiel, a half-sister to December Draw, the Turnbull Stakes winner. Lot 31 by Pentire, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner, is a half-sister to six winners including Group 2 winner Lady Kipling.
The popular Pins has Lot 296 a colt from a full-sister the Australian Derby winner Nom du Jeu and Lot 460 a half-brother to graded stakes winners Centennial Park, Ballack and stakes placed winner Clovelly Park-Deep Thinker. Lot 54 is a colt by So You Think from the stakes winning dam Astounded, and Lot 250 is a colt by Tavistock from Lamington Lass, his stakes winning dam.
Windsor Park also has quality yearlings by All Too Hard, Choisir, Dawn Approach, I Am Invincible, Makfi, O’Reilly and Snitzel at the Premier Sale with another 29 lots at the Select Sale highlighted by the ShamExpress half-sister to Victoria Derby winner Monaco Consul as Lot 537.
Windsor Park Stud has always been a New Zealand leader and in 1998 and 2001 was awarded the New Zealand Breeder of The Year title, and in 2010 the Mercedes ‘Breeder of The Year’ for the third time when breeding the Victoria Derby winner Monaco Consul, New Zealand Derby winner Military Move, Hong Kong Group 1 winner Beauty Flash and South African Group 1 winner Gold Onyx.
Might And Power, the dual Australian Horse of The Year and World Champion Stayer, and So You Think, the 10 time Group 1 winner in Australia and Europe, are Windsor Park’s favourite sons. Might And Power won the Cox Plate in 1998 and So You Think was successful in 2009 and 2010.
In 2016 Preferment, co-bred by Michael Moran, Windsor Park’s Marketing Manager was voted Australia’s Champion Stayer in winning The BMW, Australian Cup and Turnbull Stakes with the Champion Hong Kong Sprinter Aerovelocity winning his second Hong Kong Sprint and sixth Group 1 event. Debt Collector was Singapore’s Horse of The Year and Well Done won the Singapore Derby.
Some ten Derby winners have been bred, reared or sold by Windsor Park Stud namely the Australian Derby winners It’s A Dundeel and Nom du Jeu, Victoria Derby winners Preferment, Sangster, Monaco Consul and Kibbutz, the New Zealand Derby winner Military Move, the Hong Kong Derby winner Fay Fay and Well Done the Singapore Derby in 2016.
Today Windsor Park Stud’s six stallions are headed by the brilliant Epsom Derby winner Pour Moi, by Montjeu, who joined Windsor Park in 2012 and has sired Sacred Felix, the Champion NZ Sired 2YO in 2015-16 winning JJ Atkins Stakes, Moonee Valley Vase and second in Victoria Derby, Only Mine the Naas Lacken Stakes and stakes winners Freedom Beel, Diamonds Pour Moi.
The Champion European Miler Rip Van Winkle, whose oldest New Zealand progeny are 4yo’s, has sired Dick Whittington the Curragh Phoenix Stakes, Anglesey Stakes, Capella Eight Carat Classic and fourth in New Zealand Derby, Lasaarla Auckland Breeders Stakes and 11 additional stakes winners.
In addition the very fast Newmarket Handicap winner ShamExpress, by champion sire O’Reilly, has his first yearlings’ selling at Karaka in 2017, while Charm Spirit, by Invincible Spirit, commenced stud duties in 2015 as the Group 1’s Ascot Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, Prix du Moulin de Longchamp and Chantilly Prix Jean Prat winner.
Mongalian Khan, by Holy Roman Emperor, retired to Windsor Park in 2016 as the history making only winner of the Australian Derby, New Zealand Derby and Caulfield Cup. The ageless Falkirk is the fastest son of Tale of The Cat and sire of Singapore Derby winner Well Done and Hong Kong Derby winner Fay Fay.
The champion international sire Montjeu heads Windsor Park’s stallion history by siring the Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon, Australian Derby winners Roman Emperor and Nom du Jeu with Pour Moi being amongt his six individual Epsom and Irish Derby winners.
High Chaparral achieved a history making first crop in New Zealand with the duel Cox Plate winner So You Think, the Victorian Derby winner Monaco Consul, Shoot Out the Australian Derby winner and Descarado the winner of the Caulfield Cup.
Pour Moi and Rip Van Winkle stand at Windsor Park Stud as shuttle-stallions from Coolmore Ireland, which in the past has seen Windsor Park establish Montjeu, High Chaparral, Mastercreftsman, Tale of The Cat and Spinning World as successful young stallions.
