Champion jockey Damien Oliver will stay in Australia for now after his contract to ride in Mauritius fell through.

Oliver, who won the Group One All Aged Stakes on Tivaci at Randwick on Saturday, was due to leave Australia this week to take up a contract on the island nation.

“I’ve actually just got some bad news yesterday … it’s fallen through,” Oliver said.

“The stable I was going to ride for were unable to have a stable jockey.”

Oliver said he was unlikely to return to Sydney next week to ride in the rescheduled Sydney Cup.

He was one of six jockeys unaware last week’s race had been called off midway through and rode Chance To Dance into what he thought was second place.
