 Newcastle-trained The Mission has scored a decisive win in the Champagne Stakes, leading most of the way to beat odds-on favourite Invader.

Making his own luck under jockey Damian Lane, The Mission ($9.50) established a clear-cut lead in the middle stages and was never seriously challenged with Invader in second and Whispered Secret finishing third.

The two-year-old’s second win during the Sydney autumn gave trainer Paul Perry an overdue success in a Group One race.
