The Sydney Cup will be re-run on a heavy 8, with showers possible for Randwick Racecourse ahead of the program.

But it’s a slight improvement from last weekend’s heavy 9, and racecourse manager Nevesh Ramdhani says there’s a chance Randwick will be spared further rain.

“(There are) possible showers (forecast) along the coastal fringe so we may be lucky and might not get any,” Ramdhani told Sky Sports Radio on Friday.

“Yesterday morning … there was quite a big fog over Randwick and bit of moisture but it did dry out as the afternoon went on and it’s a sort of similar day today.

“We’ve moved the rail into the two metre position. We’ve gone to look for a little bit of fresh ground where they haven’t been.”

The Sydney Cup on April 8 was declared a no-race after Almoonqith fatally broke down and Who Shot Thebarman lost his rider.

Ramdhani said the rail would go out to 10m for Tuesday’s Anzac Day meeting.

“There’s a couple of millimetres of rain every day through the weekend and into next week, so we’ll have to watch that as well,” he said.
