CARNIVAL DAY 2SATURDAY 13 MAY

RAIL: +3m 800m-WP, True remainder                                 TRACK: Good 4

RACE 1          Benchmark 78    2200M

 NO.6               INTERLOCUTER

We got off to a flyer yesterday on day one of the carnival and hopefully INTERLOCUTER can do the right thing and get the chocolates in the first today. This former European galloper kick started his Australia career at Newcastle in late march and was terrific closing late for second before he went to Wyong and destroyed a field to win by over seven lengths. Don’t get carried away as the field was very limited but it was the way this son of Medaglia D’oro beat them never looking like he got out of first gear. From a soft barrier with good speed he should get a nice run in behind a few and go bang as they turn for home. Chris Waller is our danger with three runners Richard Of Yorke, Great Glen and Wu Gok. Richard Of Yorke is a handy stayer winning two of past three starts but he can take some riding and today is the first time he gets an apprentice on board from a bad gate. Great Glen has Bowman on board and turns up here off a strong win at Hawkesbury last start.

Selections:       6 Interlocuter    2 Richard Of Yorke                   3 Great Glen

RACE 8          Quality   Listed 1100M

 NO.6               NIETA

NIETA could be the saviour for punters if the day doesn’t go to plan as she will line up in the final race a short priced favourite and to my eye looks a good thing. The mare trained by John Thompson has a career record of six wins from 11 starts and turned in a super effort first up this campaign winning at Randwick on a heavy track. Thompson gave her three weeks to overcome that run and as he told me on www.eonsportsradio.com.au this morning, ‘she’s ready and I expect her to win”. She carried 58.5kg first up and although she has strengthened this time around she isn’t the biggest mare racing and dropping to 53kg will help her enormously. All going to plan and she wins today expect her to turn up in Brisbane for some of its riches. The toppy Dothraki is always a chance in these types of races but as a punter he isn’t to catch. That said if he put his best foot forward he could upset the mare.
