Avdulla looking over his shoulder

As the field jumped away in the first race at Warwick Farm on Wednesday Brenton Avdulla was considered a moral at the odds of $1.25 to win the Sydney jockey’s premiership as he led his closest rival by 12 ½ wins.

At the day’s end while packing his gear up he looked over to see a little wry smile on the face of Hugh Bowman who had booted home three winners and narrowed the gap to 9 ½ wins.

\And Avdulla had eased to $1.42 while Bowman had shortened to $3 to claim another premiership.

GAME ON

Bowman started the day in good fashion with a perfect ride aboard Sambro ($3.3F) in the first and backed that up half hour later when he lifted Loveletter ($3.1F) over the line for a narrow but strong victory.

” Sambro looked well placed and I thought it’d well and really I thought Loveletter was probably my best ride coming here today so their wins weren’t a surprise but it’s nice they got the job done” Bowman said.

Avdulla looked to have clawed one back in the third when beaten narrowly aboard Walk The Streets and to rub salt in the wound Bowman got the chocolates with a gem in the fourth aboard Difficult To Get for Wyong conditioner Jeff Englebrecht.

The gap is now 9 ½ wins in favour of Avdulla but nothing will change this weekend as both head to Brisbane for group one Doomben Cup day.

“I will just concentrate on riding winners and then have a good look after the Brisbane winter and see where we are at regarding the premiership.

“If I ride well those things take care of themselves” Bowman finished with.
