Racing in QLD heads to a very wet Doomben on Saturday for Doomben Cup Day. The track was rated a Heavy 9 at 7.30am on Saturday morning, so the genuine mud runners will be suited. I’ve found a couple at an EW price that should give a great sight on a wet track.

Race 1

The Ben Currie trained 6 GULLY COMMAND comes into the race ticking the boxes for an EW play. Last start at the Sunny Coast was his best this preparation, after an injury enforced lay off, when ran down late to be beaten 0.7L. He peaks now, Jeff Lloyd retains the ride, draws to be near the speed form gate 3 and he drops 3kg into this field. GULLY COMMAND has a 1600m win here at Doomben on a HEAVY 10 track on his CV. I think he’s recapturing his old form prior to his injury, and his best will see him give this a big shake. The Tony Gollan trained pair 3 Heart Of A Warrior & 4 Lord Coconuts have a chance, but both second up on a Heavy track is a slight concern.  11 HONEY HOLT has been getting back and running on fair recently, could run into a place here. Can’t have the favourite 7 Blackjack Bella, she’s been only fair in my opinion.

Race 4

We’ve almost missed the price now, but I’m still keen to play 16 ALL OVER BOSANOVA at $5 & $2 (Crown Bet) on an Each Way basis. This 3yr old daughter of Court Command was very impressive during her first campaign winning all 4 starts, including a 5L romp on a Soft 7 track. The 4th win of her first prep was very impressive, beating Secret Mo and the highly rated QLD’er Nicconova. Her 2 runs this prep have been good, racing wide on both occasions and being beaten around 3L. She has the speed to lead here, and she will give them something to catch. The other horse I could entertain for a small WIN bet is 2 RINGOS A ROCKSTAR Ran an eye catching 10th, yep you read that right, 10th beaten 2.6L behind Savanna Amour last start. Huge upside to the change in jockey with Brad Stewart hoping on board here. I’ll be having something on RINGO here. The favourite 1 TACTICAL ADVANTAGE the obvious horse to beat, the 3L 3rd to DERRYN in the Darby Munro Stakes on a Heavy 10 at Rosehill is well and truly good enough for this. I’ll be boxing those 3 in an Exacta also.
