Black Opium has put an end to the Group One bridesmaid tag by taking out the $50,000 to-the-winner Sapphire Crown Final (515m) at Sandown Park on Thursday night.

Trained by Jason Thompson, Black Opium justified her $1.80 starting price by scoring her first Group One by three-quarters of a length in a time of 29.57.

The win extended Black Opium’s career record to a remarkable 25 wins from 49 appearances and a whopping $500,000 in career stake earnings.
