Five years after his first Golden Slipper victory with Farnan, Adrian Bott is hoping for a repeat as he prepares to saddle up two of the stallion’s sons.
Farnan’s progeny, North England and Farcited, along with Zousain filly Bellazaine, make up Bott and training partner Gai Waterhouse’s three-pronged Golden Slipper attack.
“He’s got three in the Slipper, two for us, so it’s a good effort for him in his first season,” Bott said.
North England, who has drawn barrier nine, made his Golden Slipper claims with a third in the Breeders’ Plate (1000m) and a tough win in the Golden Gift (1100m) before being scratched from the Silver Slipper due to an irregular blood count. Bott believes the missed race hasn’t impacted his preparation.
“We’ve been able to get him to where he needs to be now,” Bott said.
Farcited, who has drawn barrier 17, was close in the Black Opal Stakes (1200m), and while his focus is the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes in two weeks, Bott is hopeful he can perform well in the Slipper.
Bellazaine, despite a wide draw in 15, will push forward thanks to her speed, with Bott confident she can handle the pressure.
