Peter Moody, the trainer, feels assured that Alpha Sofie will recover her form as she lines up at Caulfield in a Stakes event.
Alpha Sofie spoiled her unblemished record under Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman after a shocking run in the $1 million Inglis Sprint (1200m) at Flemington on February 28.
Having examined the mare thoroughly, Moody believes Alpha Sofie is prepared to return to racing and she is set to tackle the Group 3 Don Casboult Classic (1200m) this Saturday.
Having begun her racing journey in Queensland where she triumphed in her final two outings for Jason Edwards, Alpha Sofie quickly impressed for Moody and Coleman by taking out the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley during the previous spring.
Following that success, she was given a break, then returned with a strong win at Caulfield on February 7 in the Group 3 Peter Le Grand Stakes (1100m) prior to her dismal effort along the straight course at Flemington.
Moody noted that Alpha Sofie has recovered well from that outing and he anticipates the filly performing better with a turn in the track.
“She’s flying,” Moody said.
“She just got a bump at the start the other day and then pulled her head off, which she’s never done before.
“That was down the straight for the first time for her. She charged and got lost.”
Moody’s faith in the filly is such that the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville towards the end of April is already on the agenda for Alpha Sofie.
“Hopefully this run will set her up to go to Adelaide for the Sangster,” Moody said.
“That was where she was going the other day if she had won, so she can have this one to get her back on track.”
Zac Spain, the rider for the filly’s three starts with Moody and Coleman, is heading to Sydney for Group 1 action aboard Victorious Spirit in the Rosehill Guineas, so Luke Nolen will take over the mount on Saturday.
