After a long journey from Perth to Sydney via Victoria, Alsephina arrived in top condition on Thursday morning, ready for Saturday’s Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.

Trainer Grant Williams has built a solid track record transporting his horses from Western Australia for eastern states features. After a successful campaign last year that included a win, two placings, and a fourth in the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes (1600m), Alsephina is primed for her Sydney debut.

“The trip away to Melbourne last spring really helped her,” Williams said, adding he’s eager to see how she performs.

This will be Alsephina’s first race in Sydney, though she has trained clockwise at Mornington this week. “She galloped on Tuesday morning the Sydney way and handled it really well,” Williams said. He’s confident she’ll adapt well to race day pressure.

After a light look around Randwick, Williams and partner Alana feel the mare is in top shape. “We’ve got her more forward, and she’s already had a trip away, which is a plus,” Williams said.

Looking ahead, Alsephina is set for the Group 1 Coolmore Classic at Rosehill on March 15, with the Doncaster Mile and Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes also on her radar.

Alsephina is the $4 second favourite with betting apps for the Guy Walter Stakes, behind Amelia’s Jewel at $2.30. Kerrin McEvoy will ride.
