Angel Capital has delivered a dazzling comeback, storming home to win a Stakes race at Moonee Valley in his first start for Chris Waller.
Previously trained by Clinton McDonald, the colt was purchased by Yulong Stud after claiming the Group 2 Autumn Stakes (1400m) in February.
Plans for a Brisbane winter campaign were abandoned due to heavy tracks, with Waller opting to kick off at Moonee Valley in the Listed Chautauqua Stakes (1200m).
Ridden by Damian Lane, the $2.10 favourite surged clear to score by 3-¼ lengths over Compelling Truth, with Miraval Rose a close third.
Waller’s assistant Charlie Duckworth praised Lane’s ride, saying: “It was very important that we got the little things right today and Damian gave him a beautiful ride.”
Connections now have their eyes on a Group 1, with the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) or the Manikato Stakes (1200m) flagged as likely options.
