Autumn Glow’s unbeaten record will be tested after drawing the outside gate in the Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Randwick.

The four-year-old mare is chasing history, aiming to join Secret Admirer, Winx and Probabeel as recent mares to win the race.

Kerrin McEvoy retains the ride at 54.5kg, with trainer Chris Waller confirming James McDonald will instead partner Via Sistina in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington.

Waller, who has won the Epsom five times, will also saddle Lord Penman. Assistant trainer Charlie Duckworth said Autumn Glow is thriving.

“It always makes it harder, but she’s a good horse,” Duckworth said. “She’s bouncing out of her skin. She’s ready to explode.”

Despite barrier 14, Autumn Glow has opened as a $1.80 favourite, shorter than Winx’s starting price in 2015.

Waller’s stable also holds early favourites in the The Metropolitan (2400m), where Birdman heads the market, and in Flemington’s Turnbull Stakes.
