The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr stable will field two runners in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday, with Globe and Ayrton ready for a clash.
Ayrton, who won the race last year, has had one run after a nearly 12-month break, while Globe returns from a spell after last racing in the Listed Ballarat Cup (2000m) in December.
The two horses had an exhibition gallop at Sandown last Wednesday, with Globe benefiting the most from the session. Ayrton, who resumed with a fading ninth in the Group 3 Shaftesbury Avenue Handicap (1400m) at Flemington on March 8, is now much more forward in his preparation.
“Ayrton historically goes well fresh up, but he was a bit underdone,” said Kent Jnr. “With a month between runs, he’s much more forward and he loves Caulfield.”
Globe, a known high-energy free sweater, will use the race as a springboard for a northward campaign. Kent Jnr added that Ayrton will avoid wet tracks, ruling out Sydney as a target.
