Trainer Colin Webster says the $500,000 Placid Ark Stakes (1200m) looms as a lucrative option for his classy filly, Baby Paris.
The daughter of hot sire Playing God, Baby Paris is expected to tackle the Listed race in November after successfully completing a cameo winter campaign on the weekend.
Baby Paris, ridden by Peter Knuckey, made it two wins from as many starts after defeating Saintorio by three-quarters of a length at Belmont.
Saturday’s 1200m victory took Baby Paris’ record to three wins and a second from four starts, her only defeat was to glamour filly Amelia’s Jewel in the Karrakatta Plate (1200m).
Colin Webster says Baby Paris will have a short let up with an eye to the Pinnacles carnival later this year.
“Another nice run and she keeps putting in, we’re very happy with her,” Webster said on Tabradio.
“She’ll go to the paddock tomorrow (Tuesday) for a short break because we can’t keep her going right through to the carnival.
“We have to give her a break sometime and now is as good a time, it’s probably enough for her, she’s mainly going out for the timing.
“We have to put her out and get her ready hopefully for the Placid Ark Stakes.”
The Placid Ark Stakes launches Ascot’s revamped Pinnacles carnival on November 12.
While Baby Paris has impressively underlined her sprinting qualities, Webster has not dismissed stretching her out beyond six furlongs after the Placid Ark Stakes.
“At the moment we know she can certainly run out 1200 metres,” Webster said.
“She is a Playing God filly and they can usually stretch out a bit.
“I think there is good potential for her to go further than 1200m.
“But at this stage it’s the Placid Ark, we know she can run the trip and it’s set weights and penalties.
“It’s ideal for her because she is up in the ratings, they’re pretty high now.
“We have to look at set weight races for her.”
Undefeated in her two runs, Webster says it’s been a perfect winter campaign for Baby Paris.
“That was the plan, to get a couple of wins under our belt if we could, which we have fortunately done,” Webster said.
“She’ll go the paddock and be back for light training in a couple of weeks.”
