Betwitchery is slated to continue her winning streak when she returns to racing at Flemington.
The mare, trained by Leon and Troy Corstens and Will Larkin, will commence her new campaign in the VRC Member Brendan Sobozynski Plate over 1200 metres on Saturday.
Having already secured five victories from eighteen starts and a prior win when resuming, Betwitchery concluded her last preparation with a victory over 1400 metres at Pakenham, followed by success in the VOBIS Gold Distaff (1400m) at Caulfield on March 14.
Following a brief freshen-up, the daughter of Blue Point participated in a jump-out in April, after which the decision was made to give the mare an extended spell.
In readiness for her Saturday return, Betwitchery has completed two jump-outs at Flemington, finishing third in both on June 26 and July 10.
Larkin indicated that the stable was pleased with the mare’s progress, noting it will be her inaugural start down the Flemington straight.
“She’s going really well at home,” Larkin stated. “Her jump-outs have been good and she’s probably going her best now as she has ever.”
“She’s a mare that has always been progressing and had maturity to come, and I think that has come now as she has always been a bit fierce in her work, but she seems to be getting the hang of that now.”
“The straight for the first time is a question mark and as a Flemington trainer you would love to be able to give them a look, but unfortunately, you can’t.”
“But what she has is one of those actions that would normally suit the straight.”
“She’s a big striding mare, so she should get room, which she loves to get and I’m sure she’ll run very well.”
Apprentice jockey Holly Durnan will ride Betwitchery on Saturday, and her 3kg claim will see the mare carry 53.5kg.
