Blazejowski returns to favourite track

Trainer Greg Eurell can’t speak highly enough of stable warrior Blazejowski who returns to what seems to be the gelding’s favourite track, Flemington, on Saturday in the Be A Mate, Nominate Trophy over 1400 metres.

“He enjoys it there,” Eurell said of the seven-year-old gelding by Dash For Cash who he described as “a tremendous workhorse”.

Blazejowski could fall into the category of a hard horse to catch but on his day can perform well.

Rated a $5 chance with TAB to win this weekend, it would be the grey’s first win since taking out the Listed Barton Stakes (1400m) nearly twelve months ago.

Go further back in the form guide and the gelding can boast winning the Group 3 Shaftsbury Avenue Handicap over the same track in distance in February 2020.

“With him getting up in the weight now, that’s the issue that we have with him,” he said.

“It is becoming a bit troublesome for him and we’re going to have to claim to try and help him along a little bit,” which Eurell has done by engaging two-kilo claiming apprentice Josh Richards.

“I think the handicaps will be the better way to go with him as in the set weight and penalties races he’s finding that company just a little bit tough.”

Blazejowski returns to Flemington after a sixth placing in the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m) behind the talented Lighthouse.

Favourite for the event on Saturday is the Nick Ryan-trained Not To Be Mist at $3.40.
