Trainer Clayton Douglas is aiming for early ‘Black Type’ with Blue Hotel, who will make her debut at Morphettville Parks in the Listed Dequetteville Stakes (1000m) on Saturday.
Douglas had other options, including a maiden two-year-old race at Cranbourne or the Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield, but chose Adelaide for Blue Hotel’s first outing.
The filly is by I Am Invincible, out of Volcada, and is owned by Jonathan Munz, who also raced the dam. Volcada won the 2007 Dequetteville Stakes, trained by Douglas’ uncle Rod, now Munz’s racing manager.
Blue Hotel has impressed in two jump-outs, first at Balnarring, beating Katsumi Orochi, and then at Woolamai in late March.
“She’s trialled up really nicely and is a nice filly,” said Douglas. “She’s done everything right and trialled well against older horses.”
Luke Currie rode Blue Hotel in her jump-outs but won’t make the trip to Adelaide. Todd Pannell will ride the filly, who has shortened in the markets from $4.60 to $3.90 for her debut.
