Bott confident Shiki still on course for Magic Millions tilt

Trainer Adrian Bott insists filly Shiki remains firmly on track for the Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast despite suffering her first defeat at Randwick.

The daughter of I Am Invincible was sent out an odds-on favourite in Saturday’s TAB Plate (1000m) after narrowly winning the Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) in October.

Shiki led and kicked clear approaching the turn before being run down late, finishing fourth behind Warwoven, beaten 2-3/4 lengths.

While her Magic Millions price drifted, Bott said the run had not dented his confidence ahead of the Magic Millions Classic (1200m) next month.

“I haven’t lost faith off the back of (Saturday),” Bott said.

“I think she is the right horse to take up there. The benefit is she’s qualified, so we were under no pressure, and it was a nice starting point for her.”

Bott reiterated the filly’s grand final remains weeks away and said another Gold Coast run was likely.

“She is a very fast filly and has always been that way. I just want to see her harness her speed, which she can do,” he said.

Stablemate Lumbini also remains Magic Millions-bound after a dominant win in The Debut (1000m), while Paradoxium heads markets and is set for the B J McLachlan Stakes (1200m).
