What started as a three-month loan to Peter Snowden has turned into a breakout season for Scone-based apprentice Braith Nock.

The 20-year-old has clinched the Sydney junior riders’ premiership with three weeks left in the season, after a double at Canterbury lifted him to 38 metro wins—14 clear of Molly Bourke.

He now sits ninth overall in the Sydney jockeys’ standings and second in NSW with 107 wins, trailing only Aaron Bullock (114).

Nock will ride in nine races at Randwick on Saturday, representing top stables including Ciaron Maher, the Hayes brothers, and Annabel Neasham.

“It has been a little bit surreal,” Nock said.

“But it’s good to get the opportunities and make the most of them.”

Among his rides is Katsu in the The Agency Real Estate Handicap (1000m), who carries 64kg after Nock’s claim.

“It’s only ever won over 1000 and as Joe Pride says, weight shouldn’t matter unless it’s over 1400,” he said.

Despite his metro success, Nock isn’t rushing to relocate, preferring the Hunter Valley lifestyle and its quieter pace.
