Brave Design heads to Adelaide for Group 3 tilt at Morphettville

The Danny O’Brien stable has opted for the Group 3 David Coles AM Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday, bypassing Caulfield’s Next Payments Handicap in a bid to secure a maiden Stakes win for Brave Design.

The colt has placed twice at Stakes level in his two previous starts, including a third in the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) at Flemington and a second in the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).

“His two runs in the autumn were terrific,” O’Brien said. “The Talindert form has turned out good, and he’s come back very well.”

O’Brien believes the Black Type status of the Morphettville race, along with the colt’s potential to win as a two-year-old, made the Adelaide race the right choice.

Brave Design has also been entered for the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm on May 31 and the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) on June 14.

O’Brien’s stablemate Litzdeel will join Brave Design in Adelaide for the Group 3 SA Fillies Classic (2500m). The half-sister to Melbourne Cup winner Vow And Declare comes off a second-place finish in the VRC St Leger (2800m) at Flemington.

“She’s in great shape,” O’Brien said. “It would be great to win a Stakes race with her as she’s a promising stayer.”
