The Canonbury Stakes will shape early carnival expectations for Tulloch Lodge colt Eviction Notice as he looks to bounce back from a below-par spring debut.

The two-year-old impressed at the official trials before starting among the favourites in the Breeders’ Plate (1000m).

After working hard to find the lead, Eviction Notice weakened late and finished well back.

Trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott elected to put the colt straight into the paddock.

Bott has been pleased with the progress he has made since returning.

“Physically, he looks fantastic, and I can’t fault him,” Bott said.

“He started a fancied horse in the Breeders’ Plate and things just didn’t go to plan for him, but he seems in good order.”

Eviction Notice will meet Breeders’ Plate winner Incognito again at Rosehill on Saturday.

With the Golden Slipper looming, Bott sees the run as an important guide.

“There are going to be some quality horses in that race so it will give us a good line on where he’s at,” he said.

“He has come back really well. He’s just got to step up and improve on what he did first campaign.”

The stable will also be represented by Miss Chanel in the Widden Stakes (1100m).

“She will improve nicely off the back of that and having had that experience,” Bott said.

“She will be better on top of the ground too.”
