CANTERBURY
WEDNESDAY 8 AUGUST
TRACK: GOOD 4 RAIL: TRUE
BEST BETS:
Race 2 No.7 MAID OF HEAVEN
Race 4 No.8 METAMORPHIC
Race 1
1 – 3 – 5 – 6
ARAMAYO looks the one to beat in the day’s opening event. He found the line well on debut at Kembla over 1400m and is sure to appreciate the extra distance here. The Summit (6th), Banteux (10th), Alier (7th) and Horn (3rd) all ran in the same race behind Sydney Blue last start and there’s a case for all of them. The bottom one and roughie Hard Hustler is resuming and with no weight may roll forward and give cheek.
Race 2
7 – 5 – 2 – 4
MAID OF HEAVEN didn’t have things go her way on debut yet she found the line solidly and with that run under her belt we may just see what she can do today in this small field. I like her and I am hoping today is a stepping stone. Churning is coming back from a solid Saturday race and must be respected while Matowi has shown ability at the trials and Rectitude will likely lead.
Race 3
5 – 1 – 6 – 4
Tricky race that any of the seven runners being capable of winning. I ended up with LE LUDE who did a good job on debut at Warwick farm who kept finding the line to be beaten less than a length. Couvre Lit was solid in the betting first up but never travelled around Wyong over the 1000m. The extra 250m will help as will that run under her belt. Symi has trialled well and must be given some thought while Fearless Girl will likely lead and give them something to chase.
Race 4
8 – 4 – 10 – 9
With Star Of The Seas withdrawn this morning it leaves METAMORPHIC as the one to beat who comes here second up following a cracking first up run when narrowly beaten. He got back that day as the speed was strong but I imagine today he will settle handy and hopefully keep running. His tablemate Scream Park returns a gelding so look for a sharp improvement and keep a close eye on the betting.
Race 5
5 – 10 – 9 – 8
FOREIGN TERRITORY created a big impression when he won ultra impressively on the Kensington track at his second start before running well when the tempo was strong here before having a four week break. His latest run was several grades above this and a repeat will likely have him the one to get past. Mad Fox will get the soft run and if he wants to win he can be around the mark while the Gerald Ryan pair Molyfied and Love’s A Fantasy are capable of upsetting the apple cart.
THE LAST TWO RACES ARE WIDE OPEN WITH PLENTY OF CHANCES IN MY OPINION.
Race 6
6 – 11 – 1 – 8
JUNGLIZED was very good first up at Randwick in Saturday grade and will be in the mix for a long way while his stablemate Za Zi Ba is first up off a good trial and looks a major player. Esperance is a winner of two from five in Melbourne and resumes here off a good barrier trial and will appreciate a strong tempo. Jetwings started in Sydney and was very good when beaten narrowly on debut before going to Hong Kong then coming back to Sydney before doing a U-turn and going back to Honkers. He then went to New Zealand and is now done a double full circle and is back in Sydney. His trial was good so keep a close eye on him as he has good ability.
Race 7
9 – 2 – 1 – 6
NEWTOWN BLUEBAG is third up following two good runs and now steps to 1900m a distance he has run especially well at here at Canterbury at his three previous attempts. The blinkers go back on so he can run well at good odds here. If Valentino Rossa can run the trip he will be hard to hold out while Shalmaneser caught the eye first up for Richard Freedman and can surprise here at double figure odds. El Dorado Mine is now ready to have a crack at this journey.
