Captivant confirmed for the Caulfield Guineas

Group 1 winner Captivant will bypass a lesser assignment in Sydney and head to Melbourne for the Caulfield Guineas.

Connections accepted for races in two states and were weighing up their options after the colt drew barrier 14 of 17 in the $2 million classic and gate one in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) at Randwick.

But on Wednesday evening, Snowden confirmed Captivant would head to Melbourne where he will clash with top colts Anamoe and Artorius.

Captivant captured the Champagne Stakes at his fourth campaign run in the autumn and tackles the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) at the same stage of his current preparation.

After a slashing first-up third behind In The Congo in the San Domenico Stakes, he has finished midfield in The Run To The Rose and the Golden Rose.

But Snowden expects a distance rise to 1600m to be ideal.

“Getting out a bit further and they go a bit steadier midrace, he’s a good chance to get up on the bridle and finish better,” Snowden said

“It’s just the trip. He wants that bit of ground.

“He sprints well fresh but 1500, 1600 metres, that’s the right trip for him so he should start to come into his own now.”
