Charm Stone ready for a Group 1 return in the Robert Sangster Stakes

After a lengthy break, Charm Stone is geared up for a Group 1 victory in the Robert Sangster Stakes at Morphettville on Saturday.

The mare has not raced since finishing second at the Gold Coast in January, and trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr have given her two jump-outs in preparation for her first trip to Adelaide.

Charm Stone, a rising five-year-old, has been without a win since her success in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes at Moonee Valley in September 2023, followed by a victory at Caulfield.

She faced challenges after a fifth-place finish in the Group 1 Golden Rose at Rosehill, with a bone chip discovered that required surgery. A lengthy recovery followed before her mixed spring campaign and a Gold Coast appearance.

Price is pleased with Charm Stone’s progress and believes she deserves her Group 1 shot.

“She’s going super,” Price said. “She had quite a bit of time away from racing, but she’s going good now.”

Mark Zahra will ride Charm Stone as she aims for her first Group 1 win, while Price and Kent Jnr also return to Adelaide with Reserve Bank for the Tobin Bronze Stakes.
