Unbeaten filly Cicala has the chance to deliver a rare highlight for her little-known sire Tamasa when she lines up in Saturday’s Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville.
Trained by Will Clarken and Niki O’Shea, Cicala impressed with a dominant win over Noetzie last start and remains undefeated.
Racing Manager Lachie Weekley said the stable secured the filly from her former trainer Jackson Matthews after spotting her promise in barrier trials.
Tamasa, a son of So You Think, stood just two seasons at stud and sired only three foals. Of those, just two have raced, with Cicala the standout.
“She’s an interesting horse with an obscure pedigree but one that has always shown latent ability and she’s just thrived since her last win,” Weekley said.
“She’s by a horse called Tamasa who had an enormous amount of ability when Darren Weir trained him.”
Rochelle Milnes takes the ride on Saturday and is on track to claim Adelaide’s jockey premiership.
Cicala is rated a $6 chance behind favourite Fieldelo and is expected to handle the forecast heavy track.
“We’re really looking forward to Saturday and the wet ground holds no fears,” Weekley said.
“She’s a really talented filly.”
