TRACK:            SOFT 6  (RAINING)                 RAIL:    TRUE

BEST BETS:

Race 4             No.5    IMPROVISE

Race 8             No.3    MARSUPIAL

Race 1

8 – 9 – 6 – 5

TCHAIKOVSKY drops back from a cracking third in the group 2 Todman Stakes and from an ideal gate should be able to stalk the speed. The wet ground is his biggest concern and the concern of all the other youngsters. Wagner was solid out of a handy midweek 2yo maiden and will be one of the ones finishing hard. Plenty is another smart 2yo by Zoustar who debuts here off a nice trial at Warwick Farm. He will look to shadow the leaders and be finishing strongly. Malos is by Lonhro whose progeny usually enjoy the sting out of the track. He will roll forward and give a big sight.

Race 2

5 – 3 – 1 – 2

DINNIGAN looks well placed off her form including her first up effort at Warwick Farm last Wednesday when second. She is becoming costly to punters having been beaten as favourite in five of her career starts. There is good speed here so she may have to tag but all things being even it looks her race. The Sinnerman is on debut from the Les Bridge yard and should be ready as he’s been to the trials plenty of times. He showed in his most recent hit out he can handle a wet track. Baltic Success was solid on debut and is out of a Secret Savings mare that are known as swimmers.

Race 3

2 – 9 – 3 – 6

I’ve stuck solid with SMILING MANOLITO who I thought was going to bolt in coming the turn last start but just whacked away when third behind Mandylion. Chris Waller has added the blinkers and from gate one he should just lob along in the second half of the field and hopefully when he is let go the blinkers keep his mind on the job. Madame Markievicz comes through the same race and also gets the addition of blinkers to keep her sharp. She has only raced twice in her career so she is still on an upward spiral. Gresham is becoming a right pain in the butt for punters with five second placings but he does look to be a leading player here. Delos will roll forward and if he gets control with give some cheek.

Race 4

5 – 2 – 3 – 7

Two leading chances albeit there is only four runners set to face the starter but I am keen on the second favourite IMPROVISE who turns up here second up having run well at Warwick Farm a fortnight ago. The step up from 1300m to the mile looks ideal for this daughter of Hinchinbrook. The favourite Chilly Cha Cha looks a promising type being a winner of three of her six career starts. She will likely roll forward and sit outside Star Of The Ring and be hard to get past.

Race 5

3 – 2 – 1 – 4

The wet track has made me soften a bit but I am keen on TURNBERRY not because she won’t handle the wet track but just weather she can run the 2100m on a testing track. I have really liked his three runs this time in and as long as he can run the trip I am confident he can get the job done. Mazaz is racing in terrific form and looms as a major player and now with the wet track the drop back from 2400m to 2100m won’t be as big an issue. Ready For Success will likely lead and now with two runs back his fitness levels should be just about right so expect a bold front running display.

Race 6

6 – 13 – 1 – 4

Only a field of eight to face the starter but I believe six genuine winning chances. MARBLE has trialled well in readiness for his first up run and looks to get a nice run just off the speed. I’m Imogen was very good first up when second at Warwick Farm and from barrier one here with 50kg on her back she can play a major role. As an added bonus she has shown she loves wet tracks. Rose Of Man has a big weight but she has the class and handles wet tracks and from a perfect gate she must be kept safe. Leogang is a runner and if he gets any easy sectionals up front he will give them something to chase.

Race 7

3 – 9 – 10 – 5

DROCHAID did enough in his Australian debut when fourth at Warwick Farm to suggest he will win his share of races and that may well start today. The wet track shouldn’t pose any issues and although it’s only a small field there looks enough speed to generate a fair tempo. Plymouth Road was very good first up and is already a winner second up plus he handles wet surfaces. All But Gone can be his own worst enemy as he races best when ;left alone early but if the speed of a race is solid enough he can really motor late so watch for him late. Dubaiinstyle is first up off two very good trials and Irithea is sure to give a big sight from the front.

Race 8

3 – 2 – 7 – 5

Looks an ideal race for MARSUPIAL who was very good first up when second to I Am Excited at Rosehill. That form line should hold up here for the Godolphin 3yo gelding. James Cummings has given him 25 days to get over that first up effort and in a race without much speed he has the ability to settle handy. Manhattan Mist is building a handy reputation with three wins and three seconds from six starts including a last start narrow defeat in the Provincial Championship heat. He looks clearly the biggest threat to Marsupial.
