Maggie Collett will chase her first win as a trainer when Just Like Lisa lines up at Morphettville Parks on Saturday.
A successful jockey with nearly 150 victories, Collett recently completed her apprenticeship and took out a dual licence, allowing her to train a small team while continuing to ride.
Her stable currently features just one horse — Just Like Lisa — previously prepared by her partner, Justin Pickering. The pair share a Callington property and use Murray Bridge’s facilities.
“I’ve kind of had it in the back of my mind that once I came out of my time I wanted to pursue training,” Collett said.
The mare, a four-time winner under Collett’s riding, tackles the 1250m PFD Food Services Handicap against quality opposition including Stakes winner Colmar and SA Magic Millions Classic winner Dancing Storm.
While rated a $61 outsider, Collett is upbeat about her form and believes another win this preparation is within reach.
