Condor Heroes an impressive trial winner

Condor Heroes has put a big space on his rivals in a barrier trial but his trainer is not concerned he has used it all up before he returns to racing.

Gerald Ryan said the three -year-old, who won a 900m heat by more than six lengths from stablemate Menari, had not been under too much pressure.

“I thought he might have been going too hard but I analysed his sectional times and he wasn’t going that fast ,” Ryan said.

“He pulled up really well as did Menari.

“Condor Heroes will start in the San Domenico Stakes on the 26th and Menari will kick off in the Rosebud on Saturday week.”

Condor Heroes has won one of his three races and run second in the other two while Menari has a win and a second from his five starts.

Another of the stable’s newly turned three-year-olds, Trapeze Artist, was a close second in his trial.

The ATC Sires’ Produce placegetter will begin his spring campaign in the Up And Coming Stakes on August 19.

While the younger brigade did as expected, Ryan was impressed with eight-year-old Red Excitement who was an eye-catching second in his heat.

“He went terrific,” he said.

“I’m not sure when and where he will start but he will probably have two trials before he goes to the races.”

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained former New Zealander Ugo Foscolo won his 1000m-heat by almost nine lengths.

Waterhouse said the NZ 2000 Guineas winner would be set on a path to the Group One Epsom Handicap.
