A drop in temperature at Caulfield has paved the way for two-year-old filly Jadzia to make her long-awaited race debut.
Trainer Grahame Begg scratched Jadzia from last Saturday’s Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) with extreme heat a major concern.
Instead, she will step out in Saturday’s Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m).
“I wasn’t 100 per cent happy with her on race morning last week, so I bit the bullet and pulled her out,” Begg said.
“Unless they’re 110 per cent right, they just can’t go to the races.”
“The extra week may be a blessing in disguise.”
Jadzia will look to follow the path of Mildred, who won the Chairman’s Stakes for Begg in 2020.
Begg said the filly had trained on strongly, including a pleasing gallop at Cranbourne on Tuesday.
“She didn’t come to us until late as she was a Magic Millions winter yearling purchase,” Begg said.
“So far, what she has done in her jump-out and trial has been more than satisfactory.”
Her performance on Saturday will determine whether she progresses to the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m).
“She is nominated in the Golden Slipper up north,” Begg said.
