COVID positive at Warwick Farm racecourse

A racing industry worker at Warwick Farm has returned a positive test to COVID.

The final Sydney race meeting of the season is expected to proceed despite an industry participant at Warwick Farm testing positive to COVID-19.

Confirmation of the result was announced in a tweet by Racing NSW stewards on Friday evening.

“Racing NSW has confirmed a positive COVID-19 case at Warwick Farm racecourse,” the tweet said.

“In conjunction with NSW Health, five close contacts have been directed to take a test and self-isolate.”

One of Sydney’s major training centres, Warwick Farm is located within one of the eight local government areas currently under strict lockdown conditions.

The COVID positive comes just days after racing officials were forced to shift Saturday’s meeting from Rosehill to Randwick when the Parramatta LGA was also identified as an area of concern due to high localised case numbers.

Randwick is the only Sydney track able to host race meetings for the next four weeks with Canterbury also falling into one of the heavily restricted LGAs.

The identity of the COVID case has not been disclosed.
