Danny O’Brien confident in Getta Good Feeling’s mile jump at Caulfield

Trainer Danny O’Brien is confident that stepping up in trip sharply won’t hinder Getta Good Feeling as she lines up at Caulfield.

Having scored on her seasonal reappearance over 1200m along Flemington’s straight course, Getta Good Feeling is now aimed at Saturday’s Group 3 Alexandra Stakes (1600m).

O’Brien’s stable has identified the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville on April 25 as the key target for Getta Good Feeling during this preparation.

“It’s three weeks between runs. She steps to the mile, but that shouldn’t be a problem as she has plenty of fitness,” O’Brien said.

“She’ll run three weeks after this and then there’s two weeks to the 2000-metre Group 1 over in Adelaide.

“It’s a pretty straight forward set-up for her.”

Getta Good Feeling was among the leading three-year-old fillies through the spring, claiming victory in the Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Flemington and running third in the Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield prior to winning the Wakeful Stakes (2000m) at Flemington.

Riding that momentum, Getta Good Feeling jumped as the odds-on elect in the VRC Oaks (2500m), seeming the likely winner midway down the straight before tiring to sixth place.

Getta Good Feeling returned to racing earlier this month, taking out the Inglis Sprint (1200m) at Flemington in a performance that stunned many punters but came as no shock to the O’Brien camp.

“It wasn’t unexpected,” O’Brien said.

“Her form in the spring had been very good at 1200, 1400 (metres) and a mile.

“We just thought she didn’t stay the 2500 metres of the Oaks, so that’s why we gave her that opportunity first-up in the $1 million race and she had class on most of them in the race and she delivered.

“Up to the mile on Saturday, she’s got plenty of fitness underneath the belt there from a long spring, so it shouldn’t be an issue.”
