David Hayes gets on the board in HK

Australian David Hayes has made a winning start to his second training tenure in Hong Kong, landing a victory with his first runner.

The former Lindsay Park horseman achieved the same feat during his first stint in the Asian capital 25 years ago.

He said it was great to see Moneymore salute at Sha Tin on Sunday, which was also Father’s Day in Australia, prompting Hayes to pay tribute to his late father and legendary horseman Colin.

“This is really special because it’s a new chapter for me, it’s Father’s Day and I’m wearing my late father’s tie to bring me a bit of luck,” Hayes said.

Hayes put the icing on the cake later in the program when champion jockey Zac Purton guided Moneymore’s stablemate Metro Warrior to victory to give Hayes a double at the opening meeting of the season.

The trainer took up an opportunity to relocate to Hong Kong this year after enjoying a successful partnership in Victoria with his son Ben and nephew Tom Dabernig.
