Proscenium Arch wins on debut for Busuttin and Young

The Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young stable has high hopes for their debut quinella pairing at Sandown.

Proscenium Arch and Guru Ram Das represented the stable in the Ladbroke It! Handicap (1300m) on Wednesday with the former prevailing a comfortable winner.

Punters sent out Guru Ram Das as the $3.50 favourite, but ridden by Jamie Kah, that filly finished 3-¾ lengths astern of Proscenium Arch ($4).

Young said winning jockey Craig Newitt went to their Cranbourne stable on Monday to put Proscenium Arch through her paces ahead of her debut outing.

“Froggy (Newitt) came in and put the finishing touches on her on Monday,” Young said.

“She got to the front and really let down nicely. I thought she might float there for a little bit, but it’s great for the owners to have a debut winner.”

Newitt and Daniel Moor do the bulk of the riding for the stable and Young said it was great to have two quality jockeys riding work along with providing excellent feedback.

She added it also provides the riders with invaluable experience on the horses prior to their races.

Young said there was a 1500m race the two fillies could run in at Sandown on August 7, depending on how they recover from Wednesday’s race.

“They might carry onto the spring,” Young said.

“We’ll push them through to their next run, possibly here on August 7 over 1500 (metres) and if they hold up, they do, and if they don’t, we’re always big on giving fillies time if they need it.

“It would be nice to point them towards the spring, but in the next month or so we’ll give them a little let-up and hopefully get them through.

“It’s nice to have a little bit of quality in the stable.”
