Some People Callme ready to roll at The Valley

Some People Callme may not have been ready for the hustle and bustle of a rich two-year-old race at the Gold Coast, but the colt is ready to take his place at Moonee Valley.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained son of Maurice heads to the All-Star Mile On Sale Now Handicap (1200m) at The Valley on Saturday.

A $260,000 purchase at last year’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Some People Callme was not ready in time to contest the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Thursday.

But Maher said the colt had come along in leaps and bounds and was ready for his first-up assignment on Saturday.

“I quite like him. He’s a big raw sort of horse,” Maher told RSN.

“He’s trialled up well and he’s got there a little bit earlier that what I would have thought.

“With the better types of horses, that seems to be a common theme with them. They do stuff a little easier and they get to the races earlier than you think they would.

“Drawn one, he’s a big horse but I think where he’s drawn, he’s got a great chance.”

Maher and Eustace have scratched Masatora from Saturday’s contest with that colt entered for a race at Pakenham on Wednesday.

In form jockey Ethan Brown has the ride on Some People Callme on Saturday.

Prior to his two mounts at Flemington on Friday, Brown, since New Year’s Day, has ridden 16 winners from 37 rides, including trebles at Cranbourne on January 6 & 13 and at Pakenham on Thursday night and a double at Sandown on Wednesday.

“He’s full of confidence Ethan,” Maher said.

“His weight is spot on and ever since he knocked off that first Group 1, he hasn’t looked back at all.”

Some People Callme is by the same sire as Hitotsu, but owned by different connections.

Maher reported Hitotsu may be absent from the upcoming Melbourne and Sydney Autumn Carnivals following a set-back.

He is hoping to have the four-year-old ready to run in Brisbane during their Winter Carnival.
