Decision looms on Jameka’s racing future

Jameka’s comeback to racing is far from certain with trainer Ciaron Maher admitting the mare is not yet showing she is back at her best.

Jameka, who hasn’t raced since suffering travel sickness after winning the 2017 Group One BMW in Sydney, stepped out in an official barrier trial at Cranbourne on Monday and finished sixth in a star-studded heat over 990m.

Maher described the mare’s trial as “OK” but said they would only press on with a comeback to racing if he felt the mare was somewhere near her best, otherwise she would be retired to stud.
