CALCULATED faces his toughest test to date when clashing with a quality field in the Up and Coming Stakes. This colt has come back a lot stronger and muscular this preparation and after winning first up it took the high class Siege Of Quebec to fight him off last time. I liked the fact Waller sent him back to the trials and allowed him to hit the line and record a win. From an ideal gate and 53.5kg I think when McEvoy releases the brakes we might see a pretty smart colt.

Race 8             No.7    Omei Sword

OMEI SWORD signalled her arrival on th4e big stage this time last year when blowing away the field in the Silver Shadow Stakes and then running a luckless second to Astern in the Golden Rose. A short preparation of two runs in the autumn with some niggles and now she is back. Barrier one looks to be her biggest issue tomorrow but with a light weight if she sees clear galloping room she can do exactly what she did 12 months ago and blow them away. The Chris Waller stable have always had a huge opinion of this girl and starting tomorrow will be her first stepping stone to riches this spring carnival.

Race 6             No.4    Jukebox

JUKEBOX has raced twice for two impressive wins albeit as a 2yo against inferior opposition but in both wins she showed acceleration that top class horses possess. No official trials for his return here but a very good jump out at Caulfield a fortnight ago have the impression he is ready to stand up this spring carnival and tomorrow is the first step.

Race 7             No.2    Hartnell 

HARTNELL is fresh and ready to go but most importantly there is no WINX against him this time but then again there is Black Heart Bart. Then again that would be like comparing Hawaii to Beirut as a holiday destination. He is yet to win first up but has run some cracking races that I think are good enough to get the chocolates here. His recent jump out shows he is going well and with even luck I think can show his turn of speed to advantage here.

Race 4             No.8    Pindan Pearl

PINDAN PEARL gets barrier one and with a bit of pressure early to make her stablemate and only danger Sheiswhatsheis cross to find the front I am hoping that gives this 7yo mare the chance to run her down. Pindan Pearl has been racing consistently and I am just hoping she hasn’t lost the knowledge of how to win. With a three kilo pull in the weights against Sheiswhatsheis and a touch of early work the last 100m might be the telling factor.
