2 – 4 – 8 – 1

BEIDI did a super job winning on debut at Canterbury when I thought he looked a little above himself. He jumped and put himself into the race and then quickened like a smart horse. He comes back a 100m here which is a little concern but with genuine speed I am hoping he can run over them. Dio D’oro ran second here on debut behind Golden Slipper winner Estijaab and although yet to win after three starts he has shown ability. He returns off the back of two trials so he should be fitter enough. God Of Thunder was well supported on debut and after doing work stopped quickly and was disappointing. He went back to the trials and looked very sharp and with the blinkers on you can expect him to be in the fight for a long way. Race 2

2 – 3 – 4 – 5  

Tricky little race as I have nothing between my top four picks. I finally settled on TERRITORIAL who resumes off a 10 week break and comes back to a distance I think he is better at the flying 1100m. Back on December 30 last year he was beaten two lengths over this track and distance before running a hole behind Moss Trip. The speed should be pretty solid so expect him to be coming hard in the home straight. Rumba Queen won on Tuesday at Goulburn so she is rock hard and coming back a 100m will suit her. If she finds the top comfortably she will take some getting past. Go The Gantry has a good record second up and will appreciate a solid speed here while The Lion from barrier one will just need room to move and he will be motoring late.

 

 

Race 3

1 – 4 – 2 – 3

SHE KNOWS was outstanding here a fortnight ago when carrying 62.5kg and racing away for a dominant win over 1000m. It’s an extra 100m here but with solid speed on paper she should be able to travel behind before unleashing her brilliant turn of speed. Brooke Magic has trialled impressively twice in preparation for this assignment and from a good gate she will race handy and be in the mix for a long way. Revenire has been freshened since winning at Warwick Farm and making it two from two this campaign while Albumin is capable of winning again especially after drawing barrier one.

 

 

Race 4

3 – 2 – 1 – 7

The favourite Araaja is third up in Australian off the back of two solid performances the latest a super run when she came from a long way back off a solid tempo to finish a closing third. The soft draw will aid her chances here. I am going to have something on OKLAHOMA GIRL who can be hard to catch but one thing is for sure she loves heavy tracks. Both these gallopers come through the same race behind The Getaway but I am hoping the wet surface helps Oklahoma Girl make up the difference. Lovani returns after two very good runs in Brisbane while Hallelujah Boy, Vaucluse and Solo Mission who gets blinkers are all capable of figuring in the spoils.

 

 

Race 5

9 – 4 – 3 – 5

Former European galloper FIERCE IMPACT has been outstanding in his two starts since arriving here including a barnstorming win here a fortnight ago over 1400m. The step up to the mile looks perfect and even allowing for the class rise the drop of 4kg and a good gate will assist him to take the step. I Am Serious has drawn poorly again for the third straight run but she is a classy mare and must be respected after being narrowly beaten last Saturday when having little luck and giving the winner 6.5kg. Our Gravano is a former Kiwi who has raced twice and both runs have been full of merit including a third last Saturday in the same race as I Am Serious. The wet track enhances his chances tenfold so keep safe. Bastia was impressive winning her two weeks ago and a repeat would have him in the mix.

 

 

Race 6

8 – 5 – 7 – 1 

I am banking on the good gate proving the difference an enabling TUNERO to return to the winners circle. He was strong winning three runs back before a checked run and not being aggressive enough when seventh at Warwick Farm before being left in front too far out at Canterbury against the older horses. From a f=good gate Josh Parr can do what he likes and can settle wherever and I hope we get to see the true Tunero. Hemmerle was very good here last Saturday but jumps quickly from 1400m to 200m which is a little concern but that said he is by Lucas Cranach. Laussel finished in front of Tunero at Warwick Farm and always looked as though she would be suited at 2000m so she deserves respect. High Dude is the out and out stayer and must be considered a major player here especially if he gets the time to wind up and make this a true staying test.

 

 

Race 7

2 – 1 – 8 – 3

The more I look at this race the keener I get on DOUKHAN who comes here off a solid fifth in the Andrew Ramsden Stakes over 3200m at Flemington three weeks ago. I am banking on that run standing him in good stead and with the weights compressed with Destiny’s Kiss carrying 61kg and the rest of the field on the limit of 53kg Doukhan is well suited. The sting out of the track won’t bother him at all nor will it worry the favourite Destiny’s Kiss who comes here in good form having won the McKell Cup 2400m last time out. This 9yo is a warrior and even giving away so much weight to his opponents he will be there when the whips are cracking. Red Dream might not have the class but he will run the two miles out strongly while.

 

 

Race 8

6 – 1 – 5 – 10

Jungle Edge will carry 60.5kg and will start from a wide barrier but his class will have him right amongst the action for a long way and if the track remains heavy he will fight right till the end. I THOUGHT SO has started 15 times and I think I have tipped him every time and after a first up narrow defeat I am not jumping off. He will carry no weight and with a nice strong speed expected here he will have be able to settle around midfield then unwind and show his true ability. Dal Cielo is a nightmare in that he may not jump but if he does he will be in the race for a long way. His Majesty is first up for 16 months but has looked sharp at the trials so keep him safe at good odds. Glenall and Perizada both have solid claims in this style of race.

 

 

Race 9

2 – 5 – 9 – 6

I thought NOIRE was a little disappointing first up when fourth but I have noticed Chris Waller has given her three weeks to get over that run which should have her nice and fresh to sprint better here. There isn’t speed in numbers but the tempo should still be ok but I am banking on the wet track to enable Noire to run over them late. Fragonard has been freshened since never figuring in the group one Sapphire Stakes but showed she is back on track with a nice barrier trial at Warwick Farm two weeks ago. The sting out of the track plays right into her hands. Powerline can sprint well fresh off the back of two easy trials and from a soft draw could be the value runner here. Star Reflection is another who enjoys the sting out of the surface and is capable of running into the money against this opposition.
