Estriella returns to Adelaide aiming for maiden Group 1 win

Ciaron Maher’s stable will return to Adelaide with Estriella, aiming for a breakthrough Group 1 victory in the Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday.
Estriella and stablemate A Little Deep will depart for Adelaide on Wednesday night ahead of the race.
Last year, Estriella was the $2.80 favourite for the Sangster, but finished fifth after leading and tracking wide, with Climbing Star taking the win.
Despite mixed form in the spring, Maher’s team has worked to help Estriella settle in her races, but the mare has struggled to produce a strong finish.
With barrier two and Ben Allen riding for the first time, assistant trainer Jack Turnbull suggested a change of strategy for Saturday.
“We may just go with her rather than riding her back thinking that she will finish off,” Turnbull said.
Estriella is priced at $15, while A Little Deep is a $26 chance, with Ethan Brown riding her for the second time.
A Little Deep, a Listed winner and Group 3 placegetter, will be targeting a Group 1 victory to boost her profile.
Climbing Star shares the top of the betting with Asfoora at $7.
