Exciting racing future for Pfieffer filly

I Am Excited looked aptly named in scoring her first win at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

The David Pfieffer-trained two-year-old recovered from a tardy start and weaved through traffic under Kerrin McEvoy to win the All Too Hard@Vinery Plate by 1-1/2 lengths.

“I think her names lives up to it, we’re pretty excited about her,” Pfieffer’s stable foreman Sue O’Keeffe said.

O’Keeffe said she was confident I Am Excited ($3.60) would break through at her second start after an impressive debut in the Woodlands Stakes at Scone on May 13.

After two encouraging trials the filly finished third behind Debonairly at Scone, a run that will stand her in good stead when she returns from a spell.

“We’ve had a few really good trials with her, two really good runs. She really deserves to go out to the paddock.

“Everything we threw at her as a baby she took on and ran straight through it.

“Nothing was a problem for her, we knew we had a good filly then.”

After jumping awkwardly, McEvoy was left to navigate her through the field until he found clear air just after the 400m and powered her home ahead of Irish Success ($26).

Aisance (8.50) was a short neck away third.

McEvoy agreed I Am Excited had a bright future.

“She’s a nice big filly that’ll only improve. She’s still learning.

“It was very pleasing to see her do that after a tricky start, she hit the line really vigorously.”
