Extreme Flight notches hat-trick at Caulfield

Extreme Flight has extended his winning streak to three with a hard-fought victory in a stakes race at Caulfield.

The Anthony and Sam Freedman -trained colt took out the Listed Gothic Stakes (1400m) on Saturday following a maiden win at Moe and success at Sandown.

Under the guidance of Damien Thornton, Extreme Flight, the $2.90 favourite, held off Prince Alexander ($8.50) by a half-head with Sandy Prince ($4) six lengths away third.

Sam Freedman said the ownership of Extreme Flight deserve credit after they had knocked back some significant offers from Hong Kong for the colt.

“Now they’ve got a stakes winner,” Freedman said.

“It was terrific. It was good for Damien Thornton who has had three wins on him now and who he’s done a lot of work for the stable and he’s getting his just reward.

“And credit to all the staff at home. They’ve done a terrific job.

“This horse has been up for a while, and it took a couple of runs to figure out what he was doing, but we put the blinkers on, and it really sharpened him up.

“He didn’t have it that easy there. He got bumped around a little bit, but he’s rounded it off really well.”

Thornton said Extreme Flight had been improving with run and was impressive on Saturday, having to dig deep at the finish.

“He quickened good at Sandown and was even better today,” Thornton said.

“He is doing a terrific job. That’s five runs deep (into the prep) and as far as I know he’s got one more run to tick off.

“I said to Sam and Brad (Taylor) that he’s going to be a nice horse.”
