Forgot You progressing well for Cox Plate campaign

With three wins from as many starts at Moonee Valley, Forgot You would appear the ideal Cox Plate contender for the Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young stable.

And if Young has her way, that is the direction she would head with the son of 2004 Cox Plate winner Savabeel.

Forgot You is nearing the trialling stage of his preparation in his return to racing for a spring campaign.

A winner of three of his 13 starts, all those victories have come at The Valley.

“He’s three-from-three at The Valley and I’d love to see him back there for a Cox Plate, but everything would have to go right and being the Cox Plate, you’ve got the cream of the cream,” Young said.

“I definitely think The Valley 2000 metres, he will see out.

“I think he’s a miler, 2000 metres top end as he’s got a lot of brilliance and he’s able to get home over the top of them.”

Forgot You has shown a flat spot in his races which has been shown in races at Flemington, including the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) and the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m).

Young pointed out the uphill run home at The Valley allows Forgot You to get over that flat spot, enabling him to power home.

Forgot You, who hasn’t raced since finishing 13th in the Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick in April, has had a couple of 800m gallops to prepare for his racing return and Busuttin and Young had contemplated a jump-out for the rising four-year-old at Cranbourne on Monday.

But that is now likely take place on Monday week.

“We’ve brought him up that little bit slower,” Young said.

“He’s definitely filled out, and he’s a bit stronger. He’s such a good-looking rooster. He’s got a serious presence about him.

“He’s doing everything right at the moment and he’s behaving himself which is a bit rare for a Savabeel colt as they can get a bit temperamental, but at this stage he’s really well behaved in the stable.”
